THE sister of a driver who suffered serious injuries in an accident has told of her family's anguish.

Nabeela Zaman, of Oxford Road, Nelson, said Mohammed Afraz had sustained broken bones in his neck, pelvis, right leg, ribs, and damaged his chest and lungs.

The 22-year-old was rushed to the Royal Preston Hospital on Saturday night after his Vauxhall Vectra collided with a coach on the A59 Preston New Road, Samlesbury, at 9.10pm.

Police believe the Vectra had been turning right out of an Esso petrol station onto the A59 when it hit a 52-seater coach, which was carrying no passengers.

Doctors said the former Walton High pupil was in a stable condition after operating on his pelvis on Sunday, which now has an external frame attached to help repair the bones.

Miss Zaman said her brother will initially need a wheelchair but should be able to walk.

She said: "He is stable but he has broken bones all down his right side.

"He will pull through but they don't know if he will make a full recovery.

"It's so bad I can't see him like this.

"My mum and dad can't do anything but pray for him and my mum has been crying all night."

Mr Afraz, the second eldest of four brothers and one sister, is conscious but heavily medicated at the intensive care unit.

The salesman and delivery driver told his family he was going to meet a friend and agreed to pick up his sister from an uncle's house on Saturday night.

Miss Zaman, 19, said: "He said he would pick us up from our uncles in an hour but we didn't hear anything so we rang him but got no answer.

"We were so worried. So many thoughts were going through our head until the police contacted us.

"He is the perfect brother, so sweet and kind and we are just thankful he is alive."
