A COMMUNITY sports pitch is get a £40,000 refurbishment.
The Multi-Use Games Area next to Greenfields Community Centre on Green Lane, Blackburn, has been vandalised in recent years.
Plans have been drawn up to revamp the pitch with durable fencing and a new hard surface.
Blackburn with Darwen Council is to spend £40,000 on the work which has been welcomed by Mill Hill and Moorgate ward councillors Damian Talbot and Jim Smith.
Once refurbished, this site will be monitored and maintained by the borough.
Council health and wellbeing boss Cllr Talbot said: “It is fantastic that we have been able to secure funding for the improvement of the site, it can become a place that children, families and all residents can enjoy. This means the council can make the changes needed to prevent vandalism in the future.”
Cllr Smith, borough environment boss, said: “The refurbishment will provide the opportunity for residents to take part in a variety of sports.”
