DAVE Kevan's decision to leave has come as a bit of a surprise to me. I think it's a very strange one.

He's gone to a club in League Two, meaning a drop down of two divisions, to a similar job that he's in just now.

I can't understand it.

I was with Ian McParland at Hull City, but I've not seen him in ages.

He's obviously taken over at Notts County and he wants his best mate working with him.

And Dave's got his family down there so you can't really blame him for making the move.

It just seems to have happened at a strange time because there's an exciting future in prospect at Burnley.

We've got the new investment and one of the best squads we've had in years.

Yet he's going to be doing the same kind of job at a team that's going to be playing in front of no more than 5000 near enough every week.

These things happen in football. He'd rather be at Notts County than Burnley, that's the bottom line .

From what I've read, it looks like Steve Cotterill's keen to promote from within rather than bring in a replacement.

And that's great news for someone like Steve Davis, the Clarets coach.

Steve's a good lad. He was at Burnley when I was there. He was a solid player and captain, who had the respect of the other players. He'll do a good job, I'm certain of that.

And even though he wouldn't say it, I think if things didn't go to plan at Turf Moor, or anything was to happen to the current manager's position, he could be the man to step up.
