A 31-year-old woman has been warned she faces prison after pleading guilty to indulging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old.

Alexandra Patricia Tattersall took the boy to a bedroom and undressed in front of him before the offence took place, Preston Crown Court heard.

She pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual activity with a boy and another count of engaging in sexual activity in front of a 14-year-old boy.

Both offences occurred at a house in Dalton Street, Burnley, between December 21 and 25 last year.

Police said that both boys had been invited into the defendant's home and plied with alcohol before the offences took place.

Joe Boyd, prosecuting, said: "The defendant accepts that she led the boy upstairs to her bedroom where she took off her clothes kissed him and encouraged him to take part in sexual activity."

Roderick Priestley, defending, said the defendant had mental issues and therefore a psychiatric report was needed in addition to the pre-sentence report prior to sentencing being imposed.

Mr Priestley said: "I ask for the adjournment not only for the preparation of a pre-sentence report but I also believe a psychiatric report will be needed.

"The defendant has mental issues which need to be addressed."

Bail was extended with the condition that Tattersall, of Saxon Street, Burnley, is not alone with anyone under 16 with the exception of her son.

Judge Pamela Badley warned the defendant she faced a prison sentence for the offences and that she would be placed on the sex offenders register.

Judge Badley said: "You pleaded guilty to two serious offences in relation to sexual matters so I will be adjourning sentencing.

"In the mean time I am going to order a pre-sentence report which will be prepared by the probation services and your solicitors will arrange a psychiatric report.

"I must stress that this is likely to be a custodial sentence and therefore this is the sentence the defendant must expect.

"I wouldn't like it to be assumed that any recommendation made by the author of the psychiatric report will necessarily be followed "I am going to extend bail with the condition that you must not be alone with any person under 16 other than you son."

Tattersall will also be put on the sex offenders register, the length of the placement will be determined at the sentencing hearing at Burnley Crown Court on Thursday December 6.

DC Gary Williams, who was involved in the investigation, said that Tattersall had invited the boy and two of his friends into her home and they were given alcohol on the premises.

He said that after the offences the boys had complained to their parents and police had launched an investigation.
