TODMORDEN Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society is looking for seven actors for its April drama production of Alan Ayckbourn's Role Play.
Open auditions are being held at Todmorden Hippodrome Theatre on Sunday, January 21 at 7.30pm.
The play finds Justin and Julie-Ann both in computers and hopelessly mis-matched in love, about to introduce their respective parents to each other over dinner: Justin's upper crust alcoholic mother from Surrey and Julie-Ann's bigoted Yorkshire father and prim mother.
Into this doomed scenario drops, literally via the balcony upstairs and the river, Paige Petite, a former lap dancer with suicidal tendencies and her thick, gun-toting minder who is employed by her violent boyfriend.
They proceed to wreak havoc on the meticulously planned evening but the brilliantly orchestrated mayhem is tempered by subtle insights into family and class.
It is a cast with parts for a variety of ages. Justin - male, in 30s; Julie-Ann, his fiancée aged 23; Paige Petite, an ex dancer aged 29; Micky Rale, an ex boxer aged 40; Derek Jobson, Julie-Ann's father, in his 50s; Dee Jobson, Julie-Ann's mother aged 45; and Arabella Lazenby, Justin's mother aged in her 50s.
"This is vintage Alan Ayckbourn, very funny and entertaining," said a group spokesman. "Everyone is welcome to audition." Call Liz Holland on 01706 879266.
