A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was taken to hospital after allegedly crashing a car into a wall.
Police were called to Tower Road in Blackburn, after a Toyota Yaris crashed into the entrance of Pleasington Playing Fields, in Blackburn, at 9.25pm last night.
Insp Andy Willis said the boy suffered a pelvic injury and was taken to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
A passenger in the car, aged 24, suffered a broken collar bone and was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.
A Tower Street resident said: “I heard a massive bang from outside and wondered what on earth had gone on.
“There was a silver car in the wall and there were bricks and things everywhere. I can’t believe it if it was a 14-year-old driving the car. What on earth were they doing behind the wheel?
“What was the 24-year-old doing letting them drive as well? It doesn’t make any sense.”
Another Tower Street resident said: “I saw the blue lights flashing from outside. There was a police car and an ambulance.
“There wasn’t any commotion going on beforehand. The wall is a mess now.”
Police do not believe the incident was related to the Wonderwood festival, which was taking place in Witton Park at the time of the incident.
A fire service spokesman said: “A person suffered injuries and was taken to hospital. The car was in a bad way, we were called to make the vehicle safe.
“The driver was already out of the car when we arrived.
“An investigation is taking place into why the crash took place.”
Insp Willis said: “I would ask anyone who saw the incident, or the events leading up to the crash, to please contact the police on 101 quoting log number 1581 of July 27, thank you.”
Although serious, the injuries the teenager and the man suffered in the crash are not thought to be life-threatening.
