PUPILS and parents across Lancashire are being given tips to help them stay safe during Walk to School month.
Pupils from more than 70 of the county's schools are donning their walking shoes for the event and the Road Safety Group, part of Lancashire County Council, is giving advice on staying safe.
Clare Farrer, deputy group manager, said: "Walk to School month is a great opportunity for children and adults to keep fit and spend time together.
"For those who are not used to walking to and from school it is also the perfect time to make sure they know about road safety.
"It is important to make sure you and your child concentrate as you cross roads and do so at a safe place.
"By setting a good example your child is more likely to do the same when they are out on their own.
"With the mornings and nights getting darker it is also important that you are wearing the right clothes.
"Bright or fluorescent clothes can be seen easily in the day whereas reflective materials are best for at night."
