A man has admitted killing a 47-year-old in a stabbing at a house in Darwen.
Brendan Mizon, 36, of Harwood Street, Darwen pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Neil Walsh, between May 2 and 5 this year.
At a Preston Crown Court hearing, the defendant's barrister asked for sentencing to be adjourned so that a pre-sentence report can be drawn up by the probation service and also a psychiatric report obtained.
Mr Carl Hargan told the court: "He has been on bail throughout. He has always been realistic.
"From very early on he has shown remorse in conferences with me.
"He has suffered depression in the past and has since the offence. He has had a history of alcohol abuse, but since the offence has not drunk. He now has a job."
Mr Hargan added: "The defendant is aware, as much as anyone else, that a custodial sentence is inevitable. I would simply ask that he is given the opportunity to put his house in order."
The case was adjourned to December 4 for sentencing.
Mizon was remanded on bail by Judge Anderew Gilbart QC who told him: "It is inevitable there will be a custodial sentence."
