A motorcylist who lied to police and got another man summonsed to court has kept his freedom.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Wayne Bannister, 27, later told police he had panicked because he thought there might be a warrant out for his arrest.

The defendant, of Leyland Road, Burnley, admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice in September last year. He was given an 18 month community order with 100 hours unpaid work.

The court was told how Bannister was stopped and spoken to after police saw him riding a trials bike. He gave the officer the details of Nicholas Lumsden and got his girlfriend to confirm they were correct.
