FIVE teenagers have appeared in court on murder charges after a woman died following an attack in a skate park.
Two 15-year-olds, from Shawforth and Bacup, charged with murdering Sophie Lancaster, 20, were remanded in custody by Burnley youth court.
Sophie died in hospital in August, two weeks after she and boyfriend Robert Maltby were attacked in Stubbylee Park in the town.
A 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, both from Shawforth, and a 17-year-old from Bacup also appeared before the court on murder charges but were released on bail with conditions.
All five were represented in court and will face a the preliminary hearing at Preston Crown on October 31.
The bail conditions prevent the youths contacting witnesses, entering Stubbylee Park, leaving the UK, or obtaining or attempting to obtain trial documents.
The three teenagers released on bail must also report to a local police station.
Earlier this month a 12-hour free music and football event was held at Bacup Borough Football Club in memory of Sophie, a former Haslingden High School pupil from Bacup.
Ten bands took to the stage from 1pm until 1am at the football ground in the music marathon.
The festival was combined with Bacup Borough FC's match against Abbey Hey.
Money raised from the event was donated to a fund called SOPHIE, Stamp Out Prejudice Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere, which has been set up in her memory.
Cash from the fund will go back into the community to pay for activities to help community cohesion.
