A TALENT show which was cancelled after the postal strike delayed entries is set to go ahead.
Organiser of Nelson's first N Factor talent show, Councillor Donna Caley, cancelled the show when only two entries were received before the October 5 deadline.
But entries from singers, comedians and other entertainers continued to be received the following week and the council decided to run the competition after receiving phone calls from members of the public.
The competition, part of Nelson Day, a family event celebrating new life being pumped back into the heart of the town, will mark the unveiling of Number One Market Street.
The deadline for entries has now been moved to Thursday October 25 and the winner, who will receive a £500 prize, will be announced on Nelson Day.
Coun Donna Caley said the postal strike meant that she didn't receive enough applications before the deadline.
She said: "When I announced that the talent show had been cancelled Pendle Council received phone calls from people who said they had applied and wanted to take part.
"I'm really pleased that everyone's getting behind the competition and the applications have started to come through now.
"We've extended the deadline too so that acts which haven't yet applied can still take part."
Nelson Day is taking place on October 27, 2007 from 11am to 2pm in Nelson town centre. Attractions on the day include boxing sensation Amir Khan unveiling the building at 12pm, an art competition, children's funfair, a balloon race and live music and entertainment.
Competition applications forms can be picked up from Nelson Town Hall or downloaded from Pendle Council's website www.pendle.gov.uk/nelsonday.
All forms must be completed and hand delivered to Nelson Town Hall in Market Street by 12noon on Thursday October 25.
Bands with equipment can not enter because of the length of time needed to set up and take down their equipment.
