BURNLEY and Nelson journalists made their own news when they staged a Press Ball.
Nearly 400 people crammed into the Angels night-spot, Burnley. The woman who made the headlines was dark-haired Sue Bevan, who was crowned Miss Press Ball 1980.
This picture, taken on February 13, 1980, shows Ms Bevan with the Mayor of Pendle John Helmn and the Mayor of Burnley Frank Bailey.
A trained nursery nurse, she said: "It's the first time I have entered and won a contest and I'm delighted. It was a super night out."
There was also a beer-drinking contest hosted on the night.
It was Julia Cook, from Burnley, who managed to down her pint of bitter in four-and-a-half seconds.
Entertainment was provided by comedian Wandering Walter.
