CALLS have been made for CCTV at a lay-by blighted by flytipping and dogging.
A children's bed – including the mattress and frame – was dumped at the stopping point off Belthorn Road earlier this week.
It comes just weeks after the Lancashire Telegraph reported concerns that the lay-by was being used by people meeting up to have sex.
Ward councillor Glen Harrison said: “I am perplexed at the mentality of people.
“Hyndburn Council are one of the only councils to offer free bulky collections.
“Surely it’s harder to load this lot into a vehicle and dump it, than either call the council or take it to the skip.
“It’s really disheartening that myself and volunteers spend our time cleaning this beautiful village, only for someone to come at the back of us and disrespectfully tip their junk.
“It is a hazard to wildlife and also vehicles as it often obstructs the highway.
“Myself and the villagers are furious that this continues and the culprits are still not caught.
“I think it is the case that this persistent fly tipping must give a strong case for CCTV in this area, as I imagine the cost of sending waste services persistently will surely be a factor in this."
Cllr Harrison last month expressed concerns that the area was becoming a ‘dogging hotspot' after residents and councillors clearing the area found condom packets and underwear.
Cllr Paul Cox, who is the cabinet holder for the environment on Hyndburn Council said: “It is disappointing that people get rid of their rubbish like that.
“I would urge people who need waste removed to check if the companies you are getting to do the work have a licence to get rid of it.
"If they don;t then you could be held responsible. We do have covert CCTV cameras and it is an area that we will be looking into monitoring."
