RUSH hour traffic was brought to a standstill after a four-car pile-up on a stretch of motorway.
Commuters travelling towards East Lancashire were caught up in the chaos on the M66.
Police were called to junction 2, northbound at Bury at about 7am yesterday.
It is believed a black Ford Fiesta was in collision with the off-side barrier.
Police said a Vauxhall van which was behind the Fiesta crashed into it followed by a HGV and then a silver BMW sports car.
Motorway police closed one lane while a diesel spill and debris was cleared from the highway.
Three people received minor injuries and were taken to Fairfield General Hospital, Bury, for treatment.
