AN investigation into the death of a much-loved grandfather has led to two arrests.

A 51-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder following the discovery of Andrew Forrest’s body in his Burnley home on March 19.

Police found Mr Forrest’s body in the house on Florence Street after he had been missing for three days.

But despite the arrests, police say that the man’s death remains unexplained and it is unclear at this stage whether any criminal act has been committed.

Det Ch Insp Gareth Willis, of the force's major investigation team, said: “While we have made two arrests I must stress that this is very much an on-going investigation and enquiries are still underway to try and establish what has happened.

“We are not in a position at this stage to say what has caused Andrew’s death or if there has been any foul play and it may be some months before we are in a position to do so.”

Detectives continue to appeal for the public’s help in tracing Mr Forrest’s final movements in a bid to find out what happened to him in the hours and days before his death.

It is known that he visited a family member in the local area at around 10am on March 16 and then returned home.

Emergency services were later called to his house on March 19 after a body was discovered.

Floral tributes from family and friends have been left outside the house and Mr Forrest’s family paid tribute to him, describing him as a loving, caring man.

The statement read: “Andrew was a wonderful and loving dad, grandad, son, stepson, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend who was a Burnley Football Club enthusiast and a very sociable person, who cared about everyone.

“As a family we are trying to come to terms with our loss and kindly ask that you respect our wishes for privacy.”

Friend of over 25-years Graham Webster said: “He was a happy guy and everybody liked him.

"A lot of people will be at his funeral he has a lot of friends. I will miss him.”

Pensioner Steve Simpson, of Florence Street, had known Mr Forrest for several years, and said: “It was a big shock. He was a good lad.”

Anyone with information or who may have sighted him is asked to get in touch with the police on 101 quoting log number 0838 of March 19.
