A PUB has closed following noise complaints made by a neighbour, a landlady has said.

Bosses at The Black Horse, in Darwen, made the announcement on their official Facebook account on Wednesday evening.

Landlady Angie White, who runs the Redearth Road pub, said: “I have lost the passion I once had for the pub trade.” The decision comes after noise complaints were made against the pub by one neighbour, Ms White said.

Darwen councillor Roy Davies, who has visited the pub several times during his life, described the departure as ‘surprising’.

The Mayor of Darwen Town Council said: “It’s always sad when a business goes out. The Black Horse at one time had a reputation for being one of the best pubs in Darwen. The only problem is the pub is a bit small and just outside of the town centre.”

Black Horse customers also paid tribute to the landlady on the pub’s official Facebook page.

One regular said: "What a shame. Having lived across the road for years, you have been one of the most considerate teams to run the pub. It was a fun little pub. Sorry to see it close."

In her post Ms White thanked her customers. She said: “We would however like to thank all the customers and staff, new and old, for their continued and loyal support.

“Hopefully we will get to see you on the other side of the bar soon.”
