THIS image from the picture archives of the Lancashire Telegraph shows Belthorn near Blackburn.

It offers a delve into the moorland village's industrial past of cotton mills and weaving which form a big part of so many East Lancashire towns.

The village developed in the late 18th century when many handloom weavers' cottages were built.

In the middle of the last century, the village acquired two cotton mills which ceased production in 1933 and 1958 after being the community's major employers.

This pre-First World War view, looking down Belthorn Road towards Rann and Blackburn, shows a couple in typical working-class dress.

The man is holding a billy-can while at the right is the chimney of Skye Mill.

About this time, Belthorn boasted four beerhouses and three public houses.

Perhaps you have a memory of the village from back then.

If so we’d love to hear from you.
