A MURDER investigation has been launched after a woman's body was found in a house.
Officers were called by the ambulance service to Rudd Street in Haslingden at around 3pm on Sunday after the 48-year-old woman's body was found.
Police said she had a number of injuries.
A police spokesman said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her death is currently being treated as unexplained.
A 30-year-old man from Haslingden has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody.
One Rudd Street resident said they saw an ambulance pull up outside the house on Sunday afternoon.
He said: "They were there for about an hour before the police were called.
"I'm guessing they were trying to save her as they kept taking in medical equipment into the house.
"The police took a body out in a body bag.
"A man from the house was also put into the police car.
"It's so sad to see someone has died, I had spoke to the woman who lived there before, but it was a long time ago and I didn't know her very well.
"She wasn't from around here."
Another Rudd Street resident said: "I had heard arguing from the house a few days ago and both of the windows at the house had been smashed earlier this week.
"It is really sad to hear a woman has died, it's absolutely terrible."
A neighbouring Sunnybank Street resident said: "There was lots of police cars there on Sunday night.
"I can't believe what's happened, I'm lost for words.
"This used to be a quiet area, that's all changed now."
