A CONVICTED football hooligan who was red-carded from following his beloved Blackburn Rovers has also been given his marching orders in the business world.
An investigation by the Insolvency Service found staff at Jordan Lewis Woods’ Blackburn firm Go-Rise falsely told customers they could boost their standing with the internet search giant Google.
But the Market Street Lane based operation had no connection with the multinational and Woods is now starting a 10-year disqualification from acting as a company director.
Last year the 31-year-old was told he risked triggering major unrest at Ewood Park after he ran onto the pitch and confronted Burnley midfielder Ashley Westwood during the East Lancashire derby in the Carabao Cup.
The father-of-two, from Cadshaw Close, Blackburn, was given a three-year football banning order and suspended prison sentence by District Judge David Purcell.
Woods dealings with the Insolvency Service have been ongoing since the government agency closed down Go-Rise, in the public interest, in early 2017. He was said to have acted in a manner “lacking commercial probity by making misleading statements to prospective customers” as a result of his Google scam.
Lead investigator Colin Cronin said the outfit cold-called would-be customers and offered to promote them in their online directory, while using keywords to improve the client’s Google ranking. Staff claims they were linked with the search giant were bogus and suggestions ‘contracts’ between the company and customers were due for renewal were also false.
Mr Cronin added: “The online business directory service sold by Go-Rise Ltd provided no commercial benefit whatsoever to customers because the director could not be accessed by the public due to it being password protected.
“Neither did the company make any arrangements with Google Adwords to provide keywords in order to promote its customers. The company obtained payments when it had no apparent intention of providing the service promised.”
Woods footballing misdemeanours, which also saw him assaulting steward Philip Riley, was said to have happened after he spent the day drinking, to celebrate his birthday. He grabbed Ashley Westwood by the throat but his Clarets team-mates quickly intervened.
