PARENTS dropping off children at a Blackburn school can now use a nearby carpark to from of and pick up their children.
The new safety initiative at Lammack Primary was launched today and there are plans for a lopllipop person to be employed soon.,
The car park next to The Hare and Hounds Free House on Lammack Road, part of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School playing fields, is now available for use by parents of pupils at the school.
There have been concerns about anti-social parking near the primary since January 2015.
The initiative is designed to encourage parents to park safely when dropping off and collecting their children.
Cllr Jackie Floyd, Blackburn with Darwen Council's assistant executive member for health, said: "The aim is to reduce anxiety for residents in the school area who have had their parking spaces used by parents.
"The school’s next step is to find a school crossing patrol officer. The funds and training are ready and waiting for the right person."
Cllr Shaukat Hussain, borough neighbourhoods boss, said: "It’s great to see schools involved in road safety activities. With the increase in vehicles on our roads, we need to find ways to reduce the amount of traffic around schools to keep our children safe.
"Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is happy to support other schools who may want to run similar initiatives to try and encourage parents and carers to try alternative ways of travelling to and from school. These small changes can make a huge difference."
