A MOTHER has spoken of the horror after a man attempted to grab her 14-year-old son while he walked home from school.
Sarah Ingham said her son, Connor, was offered a lift home in Scott Street, Burnley, on Tuesday while walking home from Burnley High School with his sister Hannah, 11, and her friend on Tuesday at around 4.10pm.
Mrs Ingham said her son had refused the offer and was then offered sweets by the man, and after refusing a second time, the man tried to grab him.
The teenager avoided his grasp and managed to run over the road to his sister and her friend, who had crossed over the road just before the incident.
Mrs Ingham 32, said she fears for her children’s safety while they walk home from school.
She said: “My blood was boiling when Connor told me what happened.
“The man was surprised Connor stood up to him and said no, I’m so glad he did otherwise who knows what might have happened.
“I want other parents to be wary of what happened and to not let their children walk home on their own.
“The man got out of his yellow Fiat and tried to grab Connor.
“Connor said the man, who looked like he was in his 60s, watched them walk down the street and turn the corner.”
Mrs Ingham said the police were called once the children came home.
She said: “Connor usually gets a lift from his sister’s friend’s dad, but his car was in the garage so for the past two days he’s been walking to and from school.
“He’s feeling okay now, he’s going back to school as normal.”
A police spokesman confirmed officers had received a report on the incident and were investigating it.
