INSTALLING dog fouling bins should be a requirement of large new housing estates in Hyndburn, a councillor has suggested.
Cllr Tim O'Kane told a Hyndburn Council scrutiny meeting developers should be required to provide dog bins on large new estates to help keep the borough's streets clean.
He said: "If we put another 1,000 dog bins people still wouldn't be happy.
"I know it's a resources issue because they cost far too much but I just wonder what the criteria is because there are some areas which get much more use and it makes sense having them there
"Let's say there's a big planning application - could it be brought into planning to provide some extra bins?
"If we have got 500 people moving in, you're going to have a certain amount of dogs and they will want bins near their homes."
Portfolio holder for environmental services, Cllr Paul Cox said: "It's down to the planners to put something in the agreement as part of the conditions.
"We haven't got the resources."
