A BEAUTY salon is giving its customers a new way to wear the poppy - by having them painted onto their nails.

Customers at Charli and the Beauty Factory in Blackburn can choose their design and how many they would like on each hand.

Salon manager and nail technician Elizabeth Grieve, 33, runs the salon with Charli Jepson, 38.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Miss Jepson is a master educator in nails, and Mrs Grieve teaches lashes and brows.

Mrs Grieve said: “We knew that it was coming up to 100 years since the end of the First World War and we wanted to do something special.

“It’s a modern way of wearing poppies and has been so popular with women from ages 18 to 60 coming in for them.

“It’s an unusual way of supporting the armed forces and I think this will take off, we could do it again.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“Those who come in for a different treatment still end up donating or decide to get it done too.

“We’re well known for our nail art. Girls will come in with wacky design ideas and we will do it. Recently I even did Beetlejuice nails for someone.”

The time taken depends on the design, as simple poppies can take five minutes, but glitter, foil and crystals may take up to 20 minutes.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Nails cost £25 for the acrylics, and anything extra for the poppy art from £3.

Women wanting to bring in their own designs are welcome to do so, and the nail technicians can help them decide.

Mrs Grieve added: “We had other nail salons ringing us and asking if they could do the same.

“The Royal British Legion even shared our Instagram posts of the nails, and we are getting support from people both in and out of the area.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

The poppy nails will be available until November 11, or longer if anyone still wishes to have them.

Donations to the Poppy Appeal can be made at the salon using the charity box.
