A TOWN centre rat run closed for more than two months has reopened to traffic ahead of schedule.
Cicely Street in Blackburn, which runs between Morrisons and Higher Audley Street, crossing the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, closed on August 13.
The road was closed between Bridge Mill Road to its junction with Cicely Lan, with those who use it forced to find an alternative route.
Council bosses said the closure was necessary for canal bridge strengthening works.
Motorists were instead sent on an alternative route down Cicely Street, Higher Audley Street, Higher Barn Street,
Eanam, and Cicely Lane.
Access for emergency vehicles and pedestrians was maintained at all times and nearby businesses including Prestige Beds on the Higher Audley Street side was still possible.
Director of legal services, David Fairclough, said works had been expected to be completed by October 30 but were finished ahead of schedule
