BUILDING work on an estate of 73 factory-built family homes for affordable rent is set to start.
Councillors have fire the starting gun for begin delivery of the modular houses in the Infirmary Waterside area of Blackburn.
The scheme will develop the is the final empty parcel of land in the a clearance area and proposals.
The estate - which include 18 two bed homes, 42 three bed homes and 13 four bed homes - was given planning permission in July.
Four of the homes will be designed to cater for potential future disabled adaptations for residents who may need them.
Now developer Places for People, who previously developed 159 new homes nearby next to the former Blackburn Royal Infirmary site, and Blackburn with Darwen Council's executive board have agreed a programme for starting work on the new modular estate.
The £11million scheme will complete the regeneration of the Infirmary Waterside area which has been in progress for more than a decade.
The construction process will see the homes built in sections in a factory and then transported by lorry for swift assembly on site.
The estate should take less than 18 months to complete with homes ready for occupation by spring and summer 2020
