TRIBUTES have been paid to a dad-of-four who died after a crash on a Scottish motorway on Wednesday.
Mohammad Asghar was described as an honest, humble and hard-working man by members of the community.
The 54-year-old died after losing control of the BMW car he was driving on the A74M in in Dumfries and Galloway on Wednesday night.
Police said the black BMW 730 veered off the road at about 10pm and smashed into a tree.
Owner of Sweet Palace on Audley Range, Shafquat Ali said: “I’ve known him a long time and he was a very humble, very hard-working man.
“Every time I saw him he was smiling. He was a very kind and honest man who attended the Jamia Mosque every Friday.
“When I heard about what happened it was very hard. Everybody who knew him around here is sad. I pray for his wife and children.”
Shahbaz Shokat of Audley Islamicwear said: “I knew him very well, his brother is my best friend.
“He was a nice person, a humble person.”
Mr Asghar, who owned A&J Motors in Audley Range, is believed to have come to Britain in the 1980s from Pakistan and had previously owned a second-hand shop on Whalley New Road.
A close family friend said: “He was a very good man, very jovial and well known in the community.
“He was driving back from a car auction in Scotland when the accident happened.
“His family are shell-shocked and lost for words. He has a wife, three sons and one daughter. It’s a tragic loss.”
Police said there may have been debris on the road and want to identify a southbound vehicle which may have lost timber from its load between junctions 19, for Ecclefechan, and 21 for Kirkpatrick Fleming, on Wednesday evening.
Sergeant Bob McNay said: “A full crash-scene investigation has been carried out in order to determine the cause of this collision.
“Early reports received indicate that there may have been debris on the carriageway near to the scene of the collision.
“We want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this collision, or who may have driven on the southbound carriageway near Kirkpatrick Fleming around the time of the collision.”
