A LARGE water main has burst, causing several homes to have little or no water pressure.
United Utilities said the water main burst in Southwood Drive, Baxenden just before 11am.
Water can be seen pouring out of the main and down the road.
The Hollins school in Hollins Lane has had to close because it has no water.
A school spokesman said: "Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances school will close at 12.10pm today due to a burst pipe which means the school as no water supply."
A United Utilities spokesman said: "The main is quite large and water is coming out.
"Our team of engineers have arrived on site at Southwood Drive and repairs will commence as soon as it is safe to do so.
"Our inspector has moved water from a different area into yours whilst we’re sorting out the leak.
"You may find that it doesn’t flow as much as the pressure will be lower, but we’re working as quickly as we can on our pipe, so we can get your taps flowing back to normal again.
"We're sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing."
