A MUCH-LOVED family-run Indian restaurant has won its fourth Curry Award accolade.
Shajan Indian Restaurant in Clayton-le-Dale won the Most Wanted Restaurant of the Year award at this year’s English Curry Awards after being nominated by loyal customers.
Bosses and staff of Shajan, which has been run by the Ali family for over 25 years, were presented with a certificate at the awards ceremony in Birmingham three weeks ago.
Zubair Ali, whose dad Mohammad opened the restaurant in 1993, said: “It feels really great to have won this award because my dad and family have put a lot of hard work into the restaurant, and the award acknowledges this.
“We believe that good customer service, a welcoming atmosphere and maintaining the quality of our food is essential.
“The continual expansion of the restaurant over the past 26 years has reflected the success of this formula.”
Despite the award being the restaurant’s first win in the English Curry Awards, the Longsight Road establishment has previously been awarded wins in the Bangladesh Caterers Association awards, with the accolade for Best Indian in the North West handed to them in 2009, 2010 and 2017.
Mr Ali added: “This newest certificate will be displayed at the front of house along with the other awards.
“We would like to thank our lovely and loyal customers for nominating us for this award as well as voting.
“Also we would like to thank our staff for their dedication and hard work.”
