SCHOOLCHILDREN will be among 250,000 young people nationwide going to the cinema for free in October.

Blackburn Vue Cinema and Burnley Apollo are backing the National Schools Film Week.

Now in its 12th year, the week is the largest event of its kind in Europe and last year hundreds of thousands of children saw current releases and classics in over 500 cinemas throughout the UK.

The focus of this year's film week is The World We Live In' and the programme of films will address issues such as the environment, tolerance, social and racial injustice, bullying, politics, storytelling, shown from various perspectives.

Blackburn Vue is showing Chicken Little, Shrek the Third, The Simpsons Movie and Charlotte's Web for primary school children and Freedom Writers for secondary school pupils.

Burnley Apollo is showing Greyfriars Bobby, Charlotte's Web, Flushed Away and The Simpson's Movie for primary school children, and Catch a Fire for secondary school children.
