A HOSPITAL has received a donation of £6,000 in memory of a tragic family who were killed in a house fire.

Members of Adam Riaz's family have honoured his last wish by donating the cash to the Christie Hospital in Manchester.

Adam, 17, was receiving treatment at the cancer hospital when his family were killed in a fire at their home in Tremellen Street, Accrington, last Novem-ber. Adam had leukaemia and died month after the fire which claimed the lives of his mother and sisters. Adam's uncle, Barry Khanan, was with Adam in hospital the night the fire happened.

He said: "The donation was what Adam wanted.

"The staff at the Christie Hospital were a tower of strength and compassion during what was obviously a n horrendous time for Adam and the rest of the family." The family estate has now been finalised and £1,000 each has been donated in memory of Adam, his mother Caneze Riaz, 39, and children Sayrah, 16, Sophia, 13, Alicia, 10, and Hannah, aged three.

The fire was started deliberately by Caneze's husband Mohammed, 49, who worked at a plastics factory in Blackburn.

He suffered severe burns and died later in hospital.

Mr Khanan added: "What happened to our family is something we will never get over, but we are strong and now must go on and live our lives for Adam's and the girls' sake.

"This is a very small gesture for a wonderful place that did everything it could for us in our hour of need."

The money has been presented to the Young Oncology Unit where Adam was treated and will be used to pay for equipment and research into cancer
