A WOMAN on holiday in Spain was alerted to a break-in at her home by a text message from her burglar alarm.
The raider at the house in Martinique Drive, Lower Darwen, last month, turned out to be her son, Dominick Mills. He took belongings worth £230.
At the time, he had no accommodation, and was without money, or benefits. The 19-year-old, of no fixed address, was given six months detention by a judge at Preston Crown Court. He admitted burglary, and a theft offence.
Miss Lisa Boocock, prosecuting, said the defendant's mother and her family had gone on holiday to Spain, where she received a text message from her burglar alarm, indicating it had been set off.
Three days later she returned and discovered her patio door had been smashed. A PlayStation and alcohol had been taken. The same day, Mills stole two bottles of alcohol from a convenience store in Lower Darwen.
