THE Archbishop of York will officially open Blackburn College's new St Paul's Centre on Friday.

Dr John Sentamu will be joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn, council leaders and students from the college, and local schools, for the opening ceremony at 11am.

The new building, which will house the sixth form and IT centre, is phase one of the college's multi-million pound master-plan to transform the college into a world-class campus.

As part of the opening ceremony, students from local schools Darwen Vale High School and St Bede's High School will seal a time capsule containing key items from the present day which include photos of their school activities together with items reflecting life at Blackburn College.

The four-storey building, located next to the Victoria Building in Blakey Moor, has been designed to be striking and highly visible and will house facilities for A level and AS level programmes, courses in travel and tourism, science and specialist IT, as well as part-time evening programmes.
