A MAN'S body has been found in a burnt out car parked on an isolated farm track.

The alarm was raised after the smouldering Hyundai was spotted at 11am on Monday on the track leading to Turton Tower off Green Arms Road, Darwen.

The badly charred remains of what is thought to be a man was found in the driver's seat.

Although a formal identification has not yet been carried out it is believed the man in the vehicle is from the Bolton area.

It is known that the vehicle was not there prior to 8am but police now want to narrow down their timescale and to trace any potential witnesses.

Chief Inspector Neil Hunter, who is heading the investigation, said: "Although the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage the circumstances are still unclear and we want to find out what happened so that we can provide some answers to the next of kin and supply information to the coroner.

"The area is very popular with ramblers and dog walkers and the weather was particularly nice that day so I am sure many people were in the area and may have noticed the car on fire, or even the smoke coming from it.

The more people that come forward with a time they saw the fire the better chance we have of working out when the incident took place."
