A BURGLAR who was spared a jail sentence asked a judge to lock him up as he had gone back on drugs.

Anthony Holt, 33, had earlier been given a suspended jail term and completed it successfully.

He got off drugs, but had lapsed back into heroin and "would welcome" a stint behind bars, Burnley Crown Court heard.

Holt, of Padiham Road, Burnley, admitted breach of a suspended sentence and was remanded in custody until September 20 to await sentence.

Roger Baldwin, prosecuting for the probation service, said in May, the defendant received 51 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months and a curfew order.

He had committed two house burglaries in Padiham. Holt had failed to comply with the curfew. On August 13, he went to the Probation Service, saying he had flouted the curfew after his row with his parents.

Paul Murphy, defending, said: "He would almost welcome a stint in prison.

"He could ask to be put on the drug-free wing."
