A MAN was attacked and threatened with a knife as he walked home from a night out in Burnley.

The 22-year-old was knocked to the ground, kicked and robbed in Fraser Street at 4.30am on Saturday.

He emptied his pockets, and the robber took his wallet, which contained £10, and snatched a mobile phone from his hand.

The attacker then kicked his victim again, and held a kitchen knife to him, threatening more violence if the incident was reported to police.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward, and it is thought a group of people waiting at the nearby bus stop in Briercliffe Road may have seen what happened.

Detective Constable Martin Swindells, investigating the robbery, said the three could be vital in finding out who was responsible.

He said: "This young man has just been on night out in the town centre and on his way home he has been robbed at knifepoint.

"He's a decent, hard working young lad and although thankfully he didn't have any injuries he's obviously very shaken up.

"He will certainly be thinking twice before he has a night out again and that is not fair to him at all.

"There were three people at the bus stop at the time, and it is very important that they get in touch. They might not have realised what was happening at the time, but anything they can tell us now could make all the difference.

"We are very anxious to speak to those people, but obviously if you have heard or seen anything which could help us, we would like to hear from you."

The attacker was described as white, in his late teens and around 5ft 8in tall, clean shaven, wearing a dark top with the hood up, and trainers.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact DC Swindells on 01282 472144, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
