A LASER therapy business has told how it has opened its doors to human clients.

Success treating equine and canine patients plus demand for pain management from humans has seen Northern Laser Therapy, based in Park Lee Road, Blackburn, expand into treating people.

Owner and qualified veterinary nurse Lianne O’Boyle, 33 has been joined by her husband, Matt O’Boyle , 30 who treats the human patients.

Lianne set up Northern Laser Therapy in 2016 to treat animals including dogs with a K-Laser.

This is a class four laser which helps reduce pain and inflammation and enhances tissue healing in hard and soft tissues, including muscles, ligaments, and even bones.

But with new baby Orlaith arriving in December 2016 and with demand for pain management for people growing, Lianne and Matt, from Blackburn, joined forces to offer human clinics from the beginning of 2017.

It has seen Matt team up with Rishton Golf Club to treat members there, while laser therapy is also offered to humans at a clinic in Samlesbury.

K-Laser therapy can be used to treat conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, ligament and muscle strains, plantar fasciitis, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia

Lianne said: “The new human clinics are getting some great results already.

“K-Laser therapy uses selected wavelengths of light to stimulate key molecules in human tissues, penetrating deep into musculoskeletal tissues and increasing blood flow, nutrients absorption, cell division and excretion of waste products.

“As a result skins, tendons, ligaments and muscles are repaired faster with reduced inflammation, scarring and pain. “

“K-Laser therapy can be used to treat conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, ligament and muscle strains, plantar fasciitis, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia.”

Lianne said patients usually feel an improvement after the first session, and it can be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, chiropractic, massage and even following surgery.

She said: “K-Laser therapy is being used by NHS trusts, including Guys and St Thomas.

“There’s a growing interest in it for both humans and animals.”

Lianne had set up Northern Laser Therapy following 17 years in practice as a vet nurse before branching out on her own treating horses and ponies with a K-Laser.

She said: “I’ve always had an interest in pain management; as clinical director at the vet practice I worked at, I wanted to improve clinical standards and encourage a more holistic approach.

“As part of this, I looked into the K-Laser and then bought one for the practice I worked at and started a clinic.”

Encouraged by the success of the laser and wanting to offer it to a wider client base as well as move into equine treatment, she decided to buy her own K-Laser and start Northern Laser Therapy in 2016.

In its first year, Northern Laser Therapy offered clinics at different vet practices as well as teaming up with a local rehab centre, and its success has now seen it expand to treating humans.

The other clinic location for treating humans at the business is The Beauty Shed, Huntleys, Huntley gate farm, Whalley Road, Samlesbury.
