SELF-HELP courses are on offer for people with long-term illnesses to help people manage health problems.

East Lancashire Primary Care Trust are running a series of free six-week Expert Patients Programme in Haslingden for residents with long-term health problems.

The course offers people with conditions such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease, arthritis, skin conditions and back pain the opportunity to manage their conditions.

The course, held in community venues for six consecutive weeks, starts at the Mary Hindle Centre in Haslingden during the afternoon of Monday, September 24.

The PCT's programme co-ordinator, Janet Swan, said: "The course is free and open to anyone who thinks they would benefit from talking to others in the same situation.

"The course is led by people who have long-term health problems themselves, and it is great to see people feeling better, just from sharing the expertise that they have built up, living with a chronic health problem."
