A 78-YEAR-OLD woman died after fall from a stairlift, an inquest heard.
Myra Haworth, of Sharples Street, Accrington, broke her right hip when she fell from the stairlift at her home.
An inquest heard that the retired quality controller had climbed on to the stairlift on April 15 and pressed the button to take her downstairs instead of upstairs.
Her foot became trapped under the chair and she fell.
Mrs Haworth's daughter, Carol Haworth, with whom she lived, said her mother had needed to go to the toilet.
Mrs Haworth underwent a hip operationat Royal Blackburn Hospital. She died just over a month later. No faults were found on the stairlift.
A post mortem examination revealed Mrs Haworth died from pneumonia.
Heart disease and the operation on the hip bone had contributed to her death.
A verdict of accidental death was recorded.
