A GARDEN will be created in memory of a little girl who died from a rare form of cancer after a housing organisation backed the idea.

Calico, Burnley's biggest landlord and housing corpor-tion, is in talks with the family of Paris Devlin, five, of Florence Avenue, Burnley.

A picture of the Cherry Fold Primary School pupil was used by the housing organisation to launch their partnership with Groundwork East Lancashire earlier this year as the launch event was near her home.

Calico, who met with the family, are hoping to kick-start discussions with her school, to create a lasting community memorial.

Paris died in the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital on August 18, after being diagnosed with neuroblastoma.

She had been ill for three weeks and had only been diagnosed with the cancer, which affects less than 100 children in the UK each year, one week before she died.

A spokesperson for Calico said: "Our sympathies are with Paris's family and friends at this time. We are talking to the family and looking at the options for a memorial that we hope will be long-lasting and will truly reflect how much Paris meant to her family, friends and the community.

"We want to speak to the school because this needs to be community-led. The family have talked about something in the park or play area and these are good suggestions but this type of memorial takes a long time to put together."

On Tuesday 100 people packed into St Teresa's RC Church for Paris's princess-themed funeral, where her white coffin was taken to the service in a horse and carriage. Paris, lived with her grandparents, Anthony and Ann Devlin, her mum, Maria, and sisters Toniann, 16, and Marny, two.
