Laura Watson, head prefect at Walton High School, Nelson, was chosen to represent England at the National Young Leaders' Conference in Washington DC.

James Dolby, head of Blackburn School of Art, bought a plan then completed the boat in three weeks and launched it on Rishton reservoir, and gave his two sons, Stephen and John, their first lesson.
He had been inspired after giving a lecture on seamanship.
