The annual hot air balloon event has been expanded to include stunt kite displays, monster kites and dragons! Added to the two days of aerial activity is a live music stage and funfair.

On Saturday evening, Victory Park will be transormed into a magical 'field of light' with spectators themselves invited to join in the breathtaking 'night glow'.

"Throughout the summer, local youngsters have been busy in workshops making flying creatures and contraptions including the dragons," said David Whipp, one of the organisers. "During the weekend visitors will get the chance to get hands on and make luminous creations of their own.

"We're expecting a record number of hot air balloons which will take off in mass launches early morning and tea time if conditions allow. The stunning Sky Symphony team will exhibit stunt kite skills over the two days including a spectacular night time session on Saturday.

"The addition of live music on both days will make it an entertaining event for everyone to attend on both Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Saturday evening will conclude with one of Barnoldswick's famous fireworks finales."

Barnoldswick's Community Arts Group has organised summer long workshop sessions which have included flag design days, giant 'bug' based sculptures, kite making, willow designs and dragon creation. This week, giant lanterns are on the production line at the Rainhall Centre in Barnoldswick. All the work will be displayed at the Festival of Flight event.

"The workshops have been timed to provide holiday activity for young people and the festival itself is part of a series of regional quality events aimed at putting Pendle firmly on the map as a visitor destination," said David Whipp.

The event and activities have been financed by Pendle Council, the Local Network Fund, Awards for All, Barnoldswick Town Council, Pendle Community Network, West Craven Together and the North West Development Agency.
