POLICE are investigating after a video of youths apparently trespassing in a derelict mill was put on the internet.

The video shows the youngsters walking along and looking through drawers in an office at the former Vernon Carus Mill, Johnson New Road, Hoddlesden.

In June police had warned that young intruders were risking their lives by using the mill as a "playground".

And now officers have urged youngsters to stop entering the site before someone is seriously injured after the footage was put on video sharing website YouTube.

Sergeant Jona-than Cisco, of Darwen's neigh-bourhood policing unit, is invest-igating the footage and warned others against imitating those had made the film.

Sgt Cisco said: "We can request this video to be removed by You-Tube's webmaster.

"Many people can view this video and this may encourage others to copy their behaviour."

The mill has damaged lift shafts, water settlement tasks and flooring.

Sgt Cisco said: "The mill is very large and very dangerous.

"It is rundown and there are old wells, exposed beams and rotten floorboards all around.

"Someone will end up getting seriously hurt.

"The mill is due to be demolished soon but it is still a dangerous site.

"They are all trespassing on the property, which is a civil matter.

"However this is a matter of safety, anyone who enters the mill are risking their own lives. "

In June four young intruders were hauled out of the former Vernon Carus mill complex and warned about their conduct.

Last summer police suffered a similar problem with intruders.

Vernon Carus was formed in 1971 by the merger of Hoddlesden-based Alexander Carus & Sons and Vernon & Co.

In 1993, the firm closed its Hampden Mill site in Darwen and 10 years later revealed it was also to close its Hoddlesden site.
