A video-link court appearance of a Burnley man jailed for murdering Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, who then allegedly stabbed another inmate, had to be postponed because of yesterday's prison officer's dispute.

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 26, who was born in Burnley, had not been transferred to a prison with video facilities.

He and Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, 20, of Small Heath, Birmingham, who murdered Pc Beshenivsky during a bungled robbery in Bradford in November 2005, are charged with attacking a fellow prisoner at high security Frankland Prison in County Durham in March.

Their alleged victim was a 22-year-old from the North West who was serving life for murder at the jail, which houses some of the country's most hardened criminals.

Shah and Jamma, who are both serving life sentences, are charged with wounding with intent and were today due to appear before Peterlee Magistrates' Court, in County Durham, via video links.

Following the charges both were transferred from Frankland Prison to separate jails.

It emerged that Shah, currently in Full Sutton Prison, near York, was supposed to have been taken to another jail with link-up facilities ahead of today's preliminary hearing, but that had not been possible yesterday.

With the defendants being co-accused they have to appear simultaneously so the court adjourned the hearing until Monday, September 3.
