A TEENAGER who took part in an assault which left a man injured was said to have punched and kicked him.

Burnley magistrates heard Adam Bracewell, 19, claimed he struck the victim once in the face and a 16-year-old then joined in the assault.

Bracewell, of Colne Road, Burnley, admitted assault by beating and allegations of failing to surrender. He was bailed for a trial over the facts of the assault case and was given a one month curfew, between 7pm and 7am, for not turning up to court.

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named, also admitted assault by beating and his case was remitted to the youth court on August 28.

Mercedah Jabbari, prosecuting, said the victim was walking in Underley Street, Burnley, when he stopped to tie his shoe lace and noticed the two defendants beside him.

Bracewell punched him twice, knocking him backwards. The victim was then put in a headlock, pushed against a wall and then fell to the floor.

Miss Jabbari said whilst the victim was curled up on the floor in a ball, the 16-year-old defendant ran up and kicked him several times.

The prosecutor said the victim had to go to Burnley General Hospital. He had suffered bruises to his left eye, a small cut to his lower lip, bruises to his leg and two of his lower front teeth were knocked backwards.

Dylan Bradshaw, for Bracewell, said the defendant would say he hit the victim once in the eye and the 16 year old then joined in the attack.
