A First World War hero whose name was missed off the Slaidburn Memorial is about to get recognition.
The local parish council has now ordered a plaque to recognise Harry Peel.
Harry Peel’s parents lived in Slaidburn at the time of his death on April 1, 1918.
They had just moved there but they and their families had farmed in nearby Dalehead since before 1861 and there are still family there. Harry had been in France for two years and was in the Royal Field Artillery at the time of his death. He died from gas poisoning.
The Dalehead plaque was not on Slaidburn memorial at the time of unveiling because it was then a different parish, but in 2013 a plaque was put on Slaidburn for the Dalehead boys – but unfortunately Harry was missed off.
Shirley Penman, Clitheroe Civic Society archivist who highlighted the anomaly, said: "It's brilliant news. We hope it can go up before the centenary."
