I and, of course, all parts of the family were present at Samlesbury Hall for the big occasion which was the wedding of my grandson and his beautiful lady at the weekend.
It was a lovely setting for a lovely day, and all went well.
Everyone dressed in their best clothes, everyone smiling, and the even the weather played its part by being clear and bright.
Yes I really do think the hall is a great place and so perfectly suited for those special occasions.
It’s not stiff and over-formal but very warm and friendly, which made the time very pleasant and relaxing.
I seem to have been going there for various occasions for most of my life.
Not always to the church wither but at least once a fortnight to the saleroom.
It’s lovely to just have a nosy around and it's such relaxing place.
Of course in the sales I usually find something interesting, not something that I need, but something I just have to buy.
My mum introduced me to it and I have been a constant visitor ever since.
My son Andrew says I’m addicted and should seek a cure.
But back to my grandson's big day where everyone was on their best behaviour.
I still can’t believe that I have a grandson who is old enough to marry now.
I am wondering where have all the years gone?
I think I might just call a halt to the passing of the years and, as everyone else does as well, endeavour to forget them.
It’s funny but the older I get the quicker time seems to fly.
Why it’s seems only last week that I was celebrating my twenty first birthday and what a day that was.
It was so astonishing and enjoyable that I can’t even remember it!
Oh, I know why I can’t remember it, I was married and a mum with not much money, so it passed unnoticed, hopefully like most of my birthdays have since then.
There was a time when I thought 'this is how old I am and I am not going to get any older so put that in your pipe and smoke it!'
But unfortunately life doesn’t quite work like that so you have admit that saying 'time is a bird and time flies' might be right after all.
