A PROPOSAL to build ten new properties has been submitted to the council.
The plans, which outline the intention to develop ten bungalows to be sold exclusively to those over the age of 55, are the latest in a string of applications made by Reilly Developments Ltd to build on land in the Clitheroe Road area of Barrow.
The ten properties, which are proposed to be two and three bedroom bungalows, look to address the need for accommodation for the elderly community in the Ribble Valley- something developers say is much needed in the area.
A spokesperson for PWA Planning, who submitted the plans on behalf of Reilly Developments Ltd, said: “There is an acknowledged need for such development in the borough as noted by the council.
“Certain documents state that ‘the market has developed little bungalow accommodation’ and as such it details a requirement for 15 per cent of units built as part of 30 plus dwelling developments to be bungalows reserved for the elderly.”
The developers have recently completed a build of seven detached four-bedroom homes just down the road from the new site, all of which sold quickly after being put on the market.
They also submitted plans to the council to build nine single story dwellings on land directly next to this new site, which were approved in 2017.
Despite receiving approval to go ahead with both developments, they were both strongly objected to by the Parish Council who listed sustainability, conservation and transportation as core objections to building.
Fred Holland, Clerk to Whalley Parish Council said of the developments: "This is another piecemeal development on green belt land which will have an incremental impact merging Barrow and Whalley Parishes.
"The parish council is of the opinion that this application will have an accumulative impact merging the Whalley and Barrow parish boundaries and fully supports the viewpoint of local residents whose access to their property may be compromised."
Barrow Parish council have been consulted on this latest development.
