MORE than 230 bags of rubbish were collected during a clean up event in Blackburn.
Despite scorching temperatures, more than 50 volunteers from the Friends of Audley and Queens Park group took to the streets and green areas to pick up rubbish.
Cllr Salim Sidat, who represents the area on Blackburn with Darwen Council, said he was amazed by the people's efforts.
He said: "It was absolutely fantastic to see everyone out on Sunday.
"A cash and carry had supplied us with water and everyone worked really hard.
"We had a gazebo with information about littering on it as part of our attempt to try and inform people about the impact of dropping rubbish.
"We are hopefully going to have another four big clean ups over the next eight to 12 weeks and we hope they are as successful as these.
"We had people from out of the area coming down too, including Pleckgate, Roe Lee and we had a lady from Darwen who collected bags of rubbish from the park.
"If anyone wants to get involved with the cleaning up, please get in touch with me and I will be happy to help."
