TWO men were arrested after a street fight in which an Asian man was slashed across the face.

Police have appealed for witnesses following the fight in Claremont Street, in Brierfield, which involved five or six Asian men.

Police and paramedics were called to the street at 4.20am on Saturday morning after reports of a broken window and fighting in the streets.

When officers arrived they found five or six Asian men using bladed articles', police said.

Police said two men were injured with one being slashed across the face.

Both the men were taken by ambulance to Burnley General Hospital but were released from hospital later the same day.

The men, who were aged 37 and 24, were then arrested by police on suspicion of assault.

They were released on police bail pending further enquiries. The men are due to answer police bail on September 21.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We got a phone call in the early hours of Saturday morning to say someone had a put a window through in Claremont Street and that there were a group of youngsters fighting outside.

"We were told we need to send an ambulance because one of them had a nasty cut to his face.

"There was fight in in the streets involving five or six lads with two or three of them being injured.

"One Asian male was slashed in the face near the railway crossing.

"A bladed article was used with the men slashing each other causing lacerations.

"The police intervened and two people were taken to hospital and treated for their injuries and released later the same day.

"Two people have been arrested in relation to this incident and been released on police bail whilst police enquiries are being conducted."
