A FIGHTING fund set up to help a cricket club threatened with the loss of its ground has received a boost of more than £200.
Stacksteads Cricket Club played a twenty/20 game against Bacup teams when the collection was made.
Stacksteads lost by seven wickets but received a generous collection towards helping the club stay at the Waterbarn Recreation Ground, its home of 104 years, which has been bought by a new owner.
Matt Hussey, club secretary, said: "We had another enjoyable night at Bacup whose players and supporters were generous in supporting our fight to keep cricket at Waterbarn.
"We are raising funds to help Brandwood Residents' Association in their bid to register the ground as a village green with Lancashire County Council and as contingency if we are involved in legal action directly with the new owners of Waterbarn Recreation Ground.
"We hope we will not need to go to court and if that is the case we will use any donations to set up a junior section."
